Welcome
The Central and Eastern European Committee for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry invites you to participate at its second conference (CEEC-TAC2) which will
be held in Vilnius, Lithuania from the 27th to the 30th of August 2013.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, and was the European Capital of Culture in 2009, along with Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Vilnius has a population of about 555,000
people, distributed over a city municipality area of 400 km2, of which 68.8 % represent green spaces. The first known written record of Vilnius as the Lithuanian capital is known
from Gediminas letters in 1323. Vilnius is a cosmopolitan city with diverse architecture. There are 65 churches in Vilnius. Like most medieval towns, Vilnius was developed around its Town Hall.
Narrow, curved streets and intimate courtyards developed in the radial layout of medieval Vilnius. Vilnius Old Town, the historical centre of Vilnius, is one of the largest in Europe.
The most valuable historic and cultural sites are concentrated here. The buildings in the old town, built over several centuries, create a blend of many different architectural styles.
Although Vilnius is known as a Baroque city, there are examples of Gothic, Renaissance, and other styles. Owing to its uniqueness, the Old Town of Vilnius was inscribed on the UNESCO
World Heritage List in 1994 [for more details, you can visit Vilnius on Wikipedia].
It has an International airport and many companies fly directly to it. Airports from: Kaunas (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia) or Warsaw (Poland) are also freezable destinations reasonably close to Vilnius. A huge number of connecting flights with line companies or low-cost ones are available. By train, bus or car, it may be easily reached from all other Baltic states: Poland, Latvia, Estonia and from the north-western Russia.
Vilnius University will host the 4-day meeting, which are located close to the historic centre and just next to the modern one. The official language at CEEC-TAC2 is English.
